Translating profanities from Spanish to Japanese.

Translating the rich variety of Spanish profanities into another language which has hardly any of its own is an enormous challenge. The Cervantes Institute, responsible for promoting Spanish culture in Tokyo, presents the novel The Savage Detectives by the Chilean author Roberto Bolaño who, together with his two Japanese translators, tells us how they reproduced the bad language in the work.
